Thank you James I will try that when I get to my computer.
Also I didn't know about the google linux page, but I do now and will start
using it from now on. Thanks for the tip.

Hi Scott,
It looks like your window manager is missing or misbehaving.
Under Gnome on Ubuntu, it's metacity.
Try the following in a terminal window:
sudo apt-get --reinstall install metacity
Btw, did you know about the google linux search? www.google.com/linux
