My experience seconds this.  My old laptop has a Netgear PCMCIA NIC.  Mandriva 
handles it well.  Fedora Live-CD handled it.  Fedora installed can't.  I 
pursued a bug report, but that didn't solve it.  No-one seemed to know why it 
was a problem.  There does seem to be an element of black art here.
