It's common. The timing is controlled ultimately by the crystal oscillators
used for generating cpu clocks etc on your mobo. These are consumer parts
and the xtal acc. won't be that great. Also xtal freq. varies with
temperature. However bettter accuracy than 2 secs a day is easily possible.
