Dear Linux fans

The Ubuntu machine on my wired network is not talking to my NAS.

If any kind person is able to do a home visit in Headingley, I will be
happy to negotiate payment in booze, a meal or cash..... I wanted to
learn to configure linux myself, but this has got me pulling my hair out
to the point where I have given up.

Here's what I have tried already -
1. Hours and hours of work at home, on my own
2. Took my gear to 2 Installfest days at YLUG, in Nov 08 and Nov 09. The
folks there were very helpful, but when I got home, the network
environment, running under my own router/gateway, is different, so the
things the YLUG set up for me didn't work. Hence the request for a home
visit.
3. Tried to employ a linux-enabled computer guy. He never got round to
visiting. I think he got scared!

For the curious, further details follow. The network is entirely wired.

I have -
- Ubuntu 8.04 running on a laptop
- Win XP running on a desktop
- a QNAP TS-109 NAS which is powered by linux. www.qnap.com

Windows can mostly use the NAS, but Ubuntu can't. I am wanting Ubuntu to
be able to read and write to the NAS via file browser, terminal window
and network-enabled programs.

As you will guess I am a linux newbie though I have been using Ubuntu
daily for over 2 years. Its easy to use but hard to configure!

Any help gratefully received.

Many thanks
