When away from home I use an Acer Aspire One netbook, using dual boot
with Fedora. The only restore option supplied with Windows 7 on this
netbook is the Acer software - not even a factory default DVD.
I need Windows for my embroidery design software, but Starter Edition
is fairly crippled, so I thought it would be a good idea to remove all
the included software and install a full Windows 7. The plan was to
remove sda1, sda2 and sda3 (the main Windows partition), combine the
space and start a clean install - however the obvious worry is whether
I will be able to find the correct hardware drivers. I'm going on a
hunt for them, but meanwhile, the obvious solution seemed to be making
partition images of at least sda1 and sda2, the hidden partitions used
during restore. Here's where I came unstuck.
In Fedora I ran partimage. sda1 resulted in 3 files (I had set
maximum size to 4GB) and sda2 gave one file. I then thought I would
move them onto a partition on my server where I have sufficient space
to image sda3 as well, but cp won't move them - it claims permission
errors.
According to linux on the netbook, the target directory
(/mnt/borg3_Data3/AA1) is owned nobody:nobody. According to SL on the
server, it's owned anne:users (as is all on that data directory).
How can I move (or even copy) those files onto the server? It has to
be something simple that I'm overlooking, but I have a total blockage
on this.
Anne
