Have a look at xf68.config or xorg.config (usually in /etc/X11  
somewhere). You'll need to edit those files. However, if you look at  
timestamps on the files there may be a backup file or similar you can  
revert to. It's likely that when you are running xf86config it's  
writing out a file that's not being read.
