[YLUG] Free Software for designing a poster, need suggestions

Depending on what sort of style you were after it may be worth looking
at Inkscape. It isn't a DTP type app really it's a vector illustrator
but it's very well geared towards print output. Also being 100% vector
it isn't going to end up murdering your machine by trying to keep A0 at
300dpi or whatever in ram which other graphics apps could end up doing!
That said, ooo would probably do just fine.
