I'm a big fan of Google Mail with a few reservations:

  * Need a decent Firefox plug-in to make it look less dull ;) Skins++

  * Another plugin for blocking all the annoying adverts since I rarely
click on them anyway and use the main search engine when hunting
down product reviews whilst planning a purchase anyway.

  * Whilst I'm sure they don't actively read your mail, I'd be surprised
if there wasn't a way for them to monitor it; they certainly do "scan"
it with automated tools to display you appropriate advertising.
Anyone using the service should be aware of the privacy implications
and take appropriate steps, including encryption with PGP / GPG.

I don't use it as an en-route spam filter because I feel if that was
it's only purpose, I'd be perfectly happy running Postfix with Amavis
calling SpamAssassin, Pyzor, Razor, DCC and ClamAV; perhaps "happier"
because I'd control it and could thus define custom rules to nail
stuff which gets through, rather than just having the 'Report Spam'
option.

It's fast and free, even the options you can pay for through Google
Apps aren't expensive in the grand scheme of things.

I try not to be a fanboi of anything and loathe people who buy
everything Apple and Steve Jobs come up with, however it's a bit hard
not to love Google; their "do no evil" thing has got a bit tarnished
lately but they still rock.

*shrug* Maybe I'm deluded, who knows. Maybe it's the champagne talking
from last night, meh!
