This doesn't answer your question directly Alex, more food for thought and may mean reorganising your computer or be used in a future computer.

If you mostly use windows and want to use Linux along side it, consider running a virtual machine with something like Oracle vbox, or VMWare Player for home/non commercial use.

If you are not familiar with virtual machines, essentially your guest operating system (linux, dos, windows, etc.) Runs inside a software container that runs on your primary or host operating system. You can have several virtual machines running at the same time without the need to physically boot into a different operating system, provided the computer has sufficient resources to do the job. You can also expose the host and guest file systems to one another.

Installing a guest OS is similar to installing physically onto your computer, it is just done through the VM software rather than booting to install media directly and you don't need to create partitions for the different operating systems, they use a virtual disk.

Vms are also useful for testing things out, vbox will allow you to create snapshots of a machine to roll back to if you find what you installed or configured turns out to be fatal. VMWare workstation also creates snapshots and is the commercial version of VMWare Player.

You can also have Linux as your primary OS and run windows as a guest OS inside that if you prefer.

Cheers,
Stuart
