Hi all, the next social will be:

Tuesday 7th June
19:00-21:00

Yorkshire Terrier
YO1 8AS

Don't forget about the Coding event
(http://www.mail-archive.com/york@lists.lug.org.uk/msg00011.html)
-----
Last night was successful, with five people turning up and geeking
out. Some highlights were:
* Phil's humongous burger that deflated with removed garnish
* cheapness of Kindle, though not enough was really known (Harry can
you bring next time please)
* nuclear submarine jobs
* Wayland more suited to workstation than X over unreliable networks,
NX > VNC etc.
* YLUG to be every fortnight, rather than 2nd/4th Tue of month
* neighbouring table being convinced Bombadil was in the Hobbit

== Interest in TermKit (http://acko.net/blog/on-termkit): ==
* command-line separation of Data and UI
* server/client design
* json object types, webkit renderers
* will work on linux
(http://blog.easytech.com.ar/2011/05/21/playing-with-termkit-with-chrome/)

== Zoe using an old iPod Touch with built-in iBooks: ==
* limited to reading anything from iBookstore
* couple hours battery life, enough to read on the commute, or bus into town
* pocket-sized

== Phil using Sony's Daily (PRS-900) eReader: ==
* versatility of formats
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ebook_reader#Supported_File_Formats)
* ok screen, but PRS-x50 series eliminates glare and has huge contrast
* weeks of battery life, enough to read on long trips away from power supply
* touchscreen, used for random notes on the go, annotations etc.
* the 950 is US-only, so no guarantee 3G works in UK c. £250 imported

Hope to see you all next social,
--
Philip Morrell
