Guy spake:

Hi all,
as broadband approaches even the remote corners of darkest Cumbria,
are there any issues with Linux compatibility with the ISP's and their
'free' modems, providing one is happy to set up the connection manually?

Personally, I'd advise you using an all-in-one router and treating it is an
Ethernet switch. Linux takes to that like a duck to water and you'll get a
reasonable firewall and DHCP with no effort. They're not free but save hours
of your time, which pays out! There are Linux friendly ISPs though. My own,
Andrews and Arnold, is one but you pay for the privilege.
