Kernel compilation; sounds interesting here too :-)LFS sounds good too, I tried it a few times, but keep getting lost and it keeps dying, but with an old laptop to destroy I'm up for giving it a go now.I'm not sure if I can speak for Arron here, but I'll give my views, if he agrees or disagree's I'm sure he'll let everyone know. The LUG may need a bit of direction, but both myself and arron are quite new to linux, the whole LUG thing, and the running a society at the Uni. This is why most of the time the floor is open to suggestion, and people coming forward to do stuff is what we intended to happen as we don't know enough about the MANY real world problems a lot of people are facing.// end rantPh at nt0mDate: Sat, 31 Mar 2007 20:46:45 +0100From: cgwyllie at googlemail.comTo: dundee at mailman.lug.org.ukSubject: Re: [dundee] new memberCC: Hmm, talks on kernel compilations, interesting idea :)Also, LSF, again interesting :PI think there's just so many possibilities that I'd agree, maybe the LUG does need a little more... direction.
I don't know, I'm just excited generally about this! (Can you tell? lol)

I think many Linux users have a Cedega subscription but not so manyadmit it in a hurry. It was controversial to begin with and it's evenmore controversial now. They used to have a strong case with things like

Steam and World of Warcraft but now regular Wine can run both of thosejust fine. Cedega is based off extremely old Wine code and thedifferences between them are really starting to show. One example is 2Dgraphics. Red Alert 2 runs far better on Wine than it does on Cedega.
Another example is the registry code. It's been totally rewrittenbut Cedega still uses (and probably always will use) the old code. Itfails to read the registry settings saved by Black & White, meaning
that you can't change the details settings and subsequently, I can'tturn off the effect that's making the game run like a dog every timethe sun comes into view. Admittedly, Wine doesn't run the game at all
but it does manage to read the registry when you run the configurationprogram. With so many more games now working in regular Wine, it won'tbe long before I, and probably many others, decide to cancel our

subscriptions. The copy protection alone won't be enough to justify itbecause a quick visit to megagames.com
almost always solves thatproblem. Cracking the games isn't an ideal solution but it's better
than wasting money on a subscription.Okay rant over. Not meaning to spread FUD or anything, this is just myopinion on the matter. (-;ChewiOn Sun, 01 Apr 2007 02:19:53 +0800"Nistur Effee" <
