At the risk of veering off topic, hardly any turntables are driven by DC
motors, only Pink Triangle ones and they are well known for not actually
going round at the right speed, stable but never quite right.  Virtually all
of them use AC motors and some of the more exotic setups (ahem) use a
precision oscillator and power amplifier to recreate the mains signal that
is normally fed to the motor.
