Hi Cheryl

Can you get anything through Uni or LEA if you're still that way inclined?
You may be able to get something at a corporate price.

Alternatively, we use HP predominately at work with some Dell, having moved
from Fujitsu about 2 years ago due to reliability problems with the
Lifebooks.

Although at work we are a M$ house my own personal Office suite is Open
Office - I have had no problems with using this except when I have to run a
Visual Basic Script or Application attached to the file - it doesn't always
perform as you would expect within OO.

I'm surprised about The Chase - WCC and the LEA are that strapped at the
moment that XP is still being rolled out to schools within the County. I
presume that they might have got their own funding for the upgrades but
sheesh they could probably build another science block for the cost of those
upgrades!

I was gonna buy one but the website was such a pig to find one that was just
what I wanted.

You should easily manage it. If you don't want a particular screen or a
huge disk, or loads of RAM, there are a good few on the Dell site for less
than that. You can get a midrange machine with a decent display, 1Gb RAM
and 80Gb disk for just under 600 quid inc vat and shipping. They'll add 175
quid or something for 3 years onsite warranty but you can drop that back to
a year to save it.

Do you have to buy this tat yourself too?

I'd guess that pretty much anything that you can buy will run it to some
extent. Rick has had some interesting experiences with Vista.
