As a career long educationist I fully support the ideas in this posting.
At the village shop in Castleton, moors village west of Whitby, 
shopkeeper and IT specialist, at own cost, have installed Linux machine, 
with broadband, for use of villagers. I have e-mailed to encourage.  Am 
working on the idea of similar setsup, with grant funding, here in the 
East End - not shops, but community centre, church.  Local school?  Hmm.
