Web services are clearly designed for precisely this kind of activity. 
However I'm not sure how great support is for the LSE etc as most are 
more US oriented.

A cursory look at the google api as an alternative indicates that they 
focus on lookups from US indices, not UK.

BBC don't RSS their market prices which would have been another alternative.

Hats off to all your screen scrapers though - that takes patience!
