Redhat now end support after a certain number of months of a new
distribution being out don't they unless you pay.
Their enterprise linux product gets a longer support lifespan however.

It's also harder (or at least it used to be, haven't done so for a
while) to upgrade between releases of Redhat than it is to do so for
Debian.

Your original point centers more around kernel issues though.  The SCSI
driver will support that card in a particular version of the kernel.  I
imagine all the distributions can run that kernel so effectively they
all have the same hardware coverage unless they ship non-free drivers.
