Constant upgrading is a real pain.  I find it best not to upgrade unless
I have to (I stayed with RH7.1 untill about a month ago).

Recent attempts to move to the latest versions of xpdf and groff
proved the benefits (as if I should have needed any) of this approach (they
were both 'improved' in ways that broke them for my usage).

I appreciate that there is a group of people who face peer group
pressure to upgrade (who said Linux was not a fashion industry).
But tendyness aside, Linux has stabilized sufficiently that frequent
upgrades are not necessary.
