As one of the Debian KDE maintainers, I can tell you this will be happening 
RSN. The biggest hurdle at the moment is lack the transition plans from gcc 
2.95.4 to 3.2.1 as the default compiler in Debian. As you may know all C++ 
code must be recompiled with the new compiler. Debian needs to plan how it is 
going to do this transition otherwise things will break, esp. as dselect is 
written in C++. Debian also needs to make sure that upgrades from woody to 
sarge do not break.
