Richard Stallman, aka rms, founder of the Free Software Foundation
(FSF), GNU's Not Unix (GNU) and the Free Software Movement is doing a
speaking tour of Great Britain¹ at the beginning of March. The ones
closest to Manchester are:

Wednesday, 2nd March: Preston
Saturday, 5th March: Sheffield

The Preston talk is at University of Lancaster. I don't have any more
details at the moment but you can see it listed as "A free digital
society" on:
http://www.theiet.org/local/uk/northwest/lancs-cumbria/index.cfm

The Sheffield talk is open for registration now.
http://www.theiet.org/local/uk/yorks/south/11-03-stallman-lecture.cfm
And I've been told that the venue is the: "Pennine Lecture Theatre at
Sheffield Hallam Uni ... which should make it easy enough to travel from
Manchester by train (only a few hundred yards from Sheffield train
station)."

You can see a video of Richard Stallman talking in Manchester in 2008 at:
http://www.archive.org/details/Richard.Stallman.Manchester.2008

I recommend attending.

The other GB venues are listed under March 2011 at:
http://libreplanet.org/wiki/Event:Richard_Stallman

Regards,
Mike.
MFS Chair.

¹ Not UK as Northern Ireland is missing from the tour! :(
