The alternative installer CD has a text based install but it's just as easy
as the main one. It leads you through prompting for information the same, it
just does it in a text screen rather than a GUI. If you can use the normal
installer you'll be able to use the alternative without a problem one I
reckon. Might be worth a go. If it's a HDD driver problem I'm not sure it'll
help. The text based installer is great for machines with graphics card
issues. Once installed, some things work that wouldn't work on the LiveCD,
it's strange but often does the trick.
Good luck with it, I hope you get it working. If you get stuck or have any
questions just let us know and we'll try to help :)
