Okay so after further investigation, it seems he was coached and
helped a lot and the network infrastructure was already in place so
all he really did was install a 2K domain controller and run some
scans... its still better than some people I've had the misfortune of
working for or with.

On a side note, MS being all altruistic, surprised they didn't offer
Vista Small School edition or something

Also what the hell was the school thinking putting the responsibility
for the IT systems with the kids mother in the first place; from the
sounds of it the 1st admin was pretty bad.
