You know Lee it is not about religion, politics or philosophy, it is
about freedom of choice. When you build a computer you can choose what
hardware components you want from a number of different manufacturers.
When it comes to operating system software why are people so limited
within a choice?, that is the problem where there is a large variation
in all products except operating system software. Why? I think we know
why as a monopoly (goes against democratic systems where competition
is encouraged) has been supported. Hardware has superseded software in
their capabilities in the past ten years simply because in hardware
design and manufacturer there has been at least two competitors which
has enhanced performance and minimized price. If there was the same
competition in operating systems then computer technology would be
further ahead, i.e. Microsoft monopoly has prevented innovation
through not having competition due to their unfair and undemocratic
practices and the failure of the U.S. Federal system to safeguard
this. It is not due to their excellence of their product but
destroying all competitors. Microsoft call Linux users Communists but
the truth is Linux users are democratic and Linux operates as a
meritocracy natural to the western world, Microsoft are the true
Communists where monopoly and extermination to opposition is policy.
They reckon than Microsoft spent $1 Billion in developing Vista whilst
Linux is done on a shoestring. A question? If $1 Billion was spent on
Linux and open source applications, the world would be light years
ahead in software technology.
