Hi I'm Chris.
I have a similar problem, however I get no sound at all in any distro. I've tried Ubuntu, Fedora, PCLinuxOS, and I am currently using LinuxMint.
I have tried all the fixes on the Ubuntu forums, and none of them have worked unfortunately.
I have an Acer 6920G if that is of any help.
I would love to have sound so I can actually use Linux for more than typing up coursework.
Thanks in advance,
Chris

Subject: [dundee] No sound in Ubuntu
I’m Paul and I’m a Windows user! :P
I’ve been dabbling with Linux for a while now, and have settled on Ubuntu, however, I’ve been battling with an issue for a good number of weeks now. The issue is that I can’t seem to get any sound output in Ubuntu. The type of laptop is an HP Pavilion DV7 2030EA and from what I read, Ubuntu really doesn’t like the HP range. L
I’ve tried to use ndiswrapper, backports, and had a good read of the ubuntu forums and can’t seem to get it sorted which is a shame as if I could get sound output then I’d really have no need to use Windows, or use it less!!
I’m wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to what I can try next as I’m pretty much at a loss now.
Thanks,
Paul.
