I hope you're not running as root here :) Try to get out of the habit
if you are running as root and connecting to the internet - indeed try
and get out of the habit of running as root at all unless really
necessary :)

It may be a good idea to upgrade to a later version of Linux if you are
able to. RH7.1 has had a fair few holes discovered in it since release.
You might get rooted every which way - but the chances are you won't
notice.

Good general advice is to try to keep as up to date as you can in your
distribution and _absolutely_ up to date in the security patches for
that release. I'm sure someone in the GLUG can supply e.g. RH 9.0
download edition if you ask.

But not free if you want to distribute them. SuSE won't give out CD's
for download - you can install everything from ftp though. They also
retain copyright on YaST which is not open source and not free software.
Red Hat require that you remove all mention of RH, logos and so on -
hence the spread of "Pink Tie" and so on i.e. rebadged RH and a slew
of "based on RH" distros.
