Best be turning off "save session on logout" or "automatically save
session". It gets on my nerves, but not enough to just ditch gnome-session
completely. It's useful to start up everything.

What bothered me the most was that I'd start Eterms with lots of parameters
to make the window transparent and shaded. Quitting gnome with them open would
mean next time gnome-session came up, I'd get a little window with a menu
and an ugly pixmap backdrop :/
