oh yeah and its distant cousin rdist (which we've used heavily in production 
environments)

does rsync speak to ftp servers? I thought it needed either an rsync or rsh 
server.

I once looked at proprietary software from Novadigm, which is similar to 
rsync, but, of course, expensive and non-open
