Lots of comments from others there about how to do it: all good.

VMWare may be overkill in this case.  Can you compile the client
against WINE and run it natively?

Also you might want to investigate Win4lin which is cheaper, uses less
RAM and is a bit faster as it doesn't emulate the entire system.
Depends on your application really and whether you want future
flexibility.
