All ADSL lines are (with the exception of those in Hull) are currently
provided by BT Ignite, so in that sense, you have to use BT. However,
you do *not* have to use BT Openworld as an ISP, and I'd recommend
against them. Any ISP with an ADSL service will provide it through BT
Ignite, and so if you can get one ADSL service in your location, you can
get them all.

I use Easynet, and their service is very good. Look at adslguide.co.uk,
where there are good comparisons of what the various ISP's offer.
