Rubbish - that's down to the distro. Suse does a very competent job of
packaging KDE, and a rather poorer job of packaging GNOME. RedHat tends
to do the reverse. Off the shelf very much depends on whose shelf....

If you compared self compiled versions of both on a system with neither
installed, the comparison would be fair - otherwise what your actually
comparing is the packaging.
