Um, well; RFC 1939 says;

All messages transmitted during a POP3 session are assumed to conform
to the standard for the format of Internet text messages [RFC822].

Of course, RFC822 requires that all headers be in the format 
<header name>: <text>
so perhaps your POP3 server is at fault after all.
