Its actually a great deal more than 340000 as people are still dying from
the affects of the bomb on their children etc etc.

I have to say that I am glad I will never have to number people like grains
of sand and decide what is best, and know that no matter what decision I
make, its wrong. Who knows if what was done was right or not, we cannot turn
back the clock. How many would have died and at what cost if they had not
dropped the bomb.
