i was running JFS 1.0.{14|15|16} on / for a couple of months. Tried
1.0.17 when it came out, but that didnt work at all for me, caused
kernel panics towards the end of boot up, quite possibly when the NVidia
driver loaded, but i couldnt swear to it.

as for the earlier versions, i have to say it appeared to be somewhat
unstable. In the entire time i was running it, i had numerous hard
locks. usualy 4-5 times a day. at the time i attributed it to hardware
fsck ups. but about a week ago i moved back to resierfs, and my system
appears to be far more stable right now. it still locks up every now
and again, but mostly when either starting X (NVidia), or during
shutdown. but it is far les frequent now. I'm guessing, that i do have
some dodgy hardware, just that reiser handles it better than JFS. i'm
not aware of any actual data loss with JFS, so it seems to maintain
integrity.

as for XFS, until very recently, there was a serious bug, that caused
some open files to get filled with NULL's on system hang. as this was
happening quite a lot, i ended up with many irratating emptyied files.
mozilla bookmarks being the worst. IIRC, the latest snapshot fixes this
bug.

FWIW, i run my XFS partition over a striped LVM. it's possibly also
worth mentioning that i've got an SMP machine. most of the kernels i
used were -jp ones aswell, as that had both xfs && jfs pathes in it.
