I use SuSE (www.suse.com), but everyone will have their own £0.02-worth. FWIW, 
SuSE has been easy to install, is European, and I've had very few problems 
with it.

Oh, you'll be lucky! If you already have a machine, then re-partition (or get 
a new (second) hard drive) and go from there
