I think my limited political vocabulary is showing... I still think there's
a leftward tilt as well though - the "communal gain for individual effort"
angle. The "gain" may just be by implication of the freedoms granted, but
I'm not convinced.

So far as ESR goes; I'm in the "ESR is as crazy as he is intelligent; and
he's very intelligent" camp.
