Are you SURE that's not an ADSL ATM connector?
Homechoice stream video via ATM.

I'm sure the collected wisdom of GLLUG will come up with the answer
though.
I'd put a serial terminal (minicom etc.) on the serial connector.
9600 8N1 for starters, then boot the thing.

BTW, I got a Grundig Freeview TV box as a Christmas present.
Obviosuly runs some sort of embedded OS - could well be Linux.
I opened it up, but sadly no apparent posts to connect to.
There IS an RJ11 socket which is for extending the IR signal, so you
can hide the box though.
