    available for download on pdf and html

 2) How to do things on GNU\Linux
    http://geocities.com/lunatech3007/doing-things-howto.html
    The parts on graphical desktops are a bit antiquated but
    most staff about the console commands is still valid.

 This two books will get you quite far.
