It will never become the "standard" installer for Debian, basically because
it would be *way* too difficult to port it to all 11 supported platforms.
However, there are some sub-projects of Debian that use x86-only installers
and live-cd systems, and there is a gtk frontend to the installer in the
works too, if that's any consolation.
