[Gllug] how much memory

Hi,
  any advice on how much memory is needed by a webserver running RH9 
apache 1

0.5 million hits per month - mostly php/mysql

some gd work ...

I thought I'd be able to just say - memory is cheap let's have lots ...

but hosting companies like to sell packages - and the standard packages 
seem to start at 128 MB

packages with more memory are lots more expensive, non-standard packages 
are unreasonably priced

(I got quoted and extra £20 per month for £256 MB)
