In the kind of quantities the mobile operators buy phones, the price is VERY
much lower than £500. You may be quoted £500 - 1000 for a handset
replacement by an insurance company, however!
The fact remains - even with cheap handsets, ALL communication charges (phone,
mobile phone, datacomms, PMR, whatever) cost much more in the UK than almost
anywhere else in the world.
The mobile phone companies recoup their outlaw on your handset in a matter of
a few months by inflating the price of "line rental" and call charges.
