I've not used USB2 stuff with Linux, but AFAIK, it behaves the same as
the firewire support. So, assuming you have the correct modules loaded
for your controller and the storage driver, you should just see the disk
as a SCSI device, which you should be able to partition and format from
any partitioning tool. Installing on these sort of devices is often
hard, as installers frequently lack the necessary modules, but using
them on an installed system should be no problem, assuming the hardware
has kernel support.
