This sounds a lot like the trouble I've had with an AJP laptop.
Somewhere in the archives (late 2002?) there'll be a thread about this,
with a reference to a post on the kernel list - that frankly I didn't
understand.

FWIW, I've had this problem on this hardware with a number of
distributions, specifically Mandrake 8.2, 9.0, 9.1, Red Hat 8.0, Fedora
core 1. However, I have successfully installed Debian 3.01, Slackware
9.0, 9.1, Mandrake 9.2, 10 beta 2.

But I don't understand why one version works and another doesn't.

I guess I should write this up and do a linux-on-laptop page.

John
