Many years ago, as a holiday job at uni, I did some work at the Bondi[*]
Sewerage Treatment Plant.  It was phenomenal the amount of jewelry that came
through the system.  There were different filters for various sizes and
densities of non-soluble stuff.  The biggest pile was always the corn one -
apparently the human body can only digest a small amount of corn, the rest
going pretty much straight through.
