Not true. There are plenty of 802.11b drivers for PCI cards (often these
are locked down pcmcia cards but that is not what they look like) and,
as I have said here before Ralink have co-operated to build GPL drivers
for their 802.11g cards.

Having said that, 802.11g support is generally pretty poor.
