I understand your point of view, but it's really a case of caveat emptor.

Anyone purchasing anything (particularly of a technical nature) should have 
done their homework first, so the specious bluster of a salesperson can be 
completely ignored.  All you need to know is:  "How much does it cost from 
this shop?" and (assuming you want to buy):  "Is there a new, boxed one in 
the storeroom?".
