[Gllug] Helping people discover Linux on our Linux Discovery Day - A call for volunteers

During the Linux Discovery Day next Saturday it would be good if we could show
off some finely honed systems alongside the inevitable installs that we will
be doing on the day. This is a call for volunteers who have systems they
feel worthy to show off and are able to bring along.

While we always have machines running something like Knoppix from a Live CD,
such systems lack the finesse of something that has been lovingly configured.

I have in mind laptop users for this because they should find it easy to bring
their machines along. Should you not be so lucky to have a laptop to show
off, we could easily accommodate your desktop systems on the day, since, we
have access to monitors in the computer labs, so you only need your tower,
though it is fully understood what a burdon this still is.

Even those who can't bring their own system along might still consider joining
in, especially if you are keen to pass on your Linux experience, as we will
have some Live CD systems up and running on the machines in the lab. The
more people that are prepared to help, the more machine we will set up.

I am especially keen that we have some desktop systems running as this is
where we think our target audience will have most interest. Productivity
tools, like email, word processing and spreadsheets, along with graphic and
web creationtools, and multimedia are the main demand, I would really
like to see some gameplay also, if we can get a couple of people with Cedega
running then that would have all bases covered, unless you can think of
anything else we should be showing off?

I fully understand that experienced users can find 'installfests' boring and
the Discovery Day is our attempt to break that mold and evolve the worthy
cause of introducing Linux to a wider audience. Most GLLUG meetings, for the
majority of regular attendees, are about learning something new. The
Discovery Day is a chance for you to give something back, to teach and show.
As a byproduct many people learn something new anyway.

Do please try to help us help others.

If you plan to help out at the meeting then I would appreciate an email, off
list, so I can get some idea of numbers
