Yep, plug another wireless box into the network hub in room 2, or see if 
there's an 8-port wireless+CAT5 router (There are plenty of 4-port 
editions). That way it doesn't matter what operating-system you run.

The problems you'll see with Linux+wireless networking are with the 
cards themselves (or rather their lack of documentation).
