[Gllug] BT downed some 25k users on adsl yesterday - anyone know why?

We're on Phone Cooperative adsl (ideological, not the cheapest around by
any means) and a lot of their customers got stuffed when BT went down
with some 25k users (not just phone coop apparently).

I understand BT wouldn't tell the phone coop what happened according to
the young lady I spoke to up at the coop HQ in Manchester, but she could
have got hold of wrong end of the stick, helping handle the phones which
were ringing off the hook with people calling in to report support
faults, and I gathered not technical.

Anyone any idea what went wrong with BT?
