[Gllug] Linux friendly graphics card

Hi all,

My graphics card (ATI) has just died on me, so obviously I need
another. This is a subject about which I know very little, save that
ATI and nVidia (the only two gpu companies I've heard of) require
proprietary drivers.

Is it realistic to go for 'open' graphics cards? If so, which ones?

I'm not a gamer, but I do some film/graphics editing, and really need
something that can support 2 (or more) monitors.

suggestions / advice gratefully received,

John
