WTF?

I was trying to state that your mental stability would be at risk if you
tried to debug problems on a kernel running binary modules.

Of course if you prefer to think that I think that you're already a
loony then you're welcome to think that (although I wouldn't recommend
it; my head is spinning just trying to say that).

The posts since Christmas (until 2007-01-05) have been done over a
desperately slow and droppy modem line out in the Yorkshire sticks. I
don't dare write substantive posts from there: one sheep farting in the
wrong place and I'd lose the lot.

What? I haven't. I don't know you from Adam.

What `rules'? They're not `rules' as such. It's just that if you want to
use a binary module, you should note that it is risky, in considerable
part because it *does* reduce kernel stability and because when you
report a bug, the kernel developers will of their own free will tell you
to go away and unload the binary module before they can do anything.

If this is a `rule' then I can name several billion other similar
`rules', starting with `do not eat live coals'. Nobody has to be told
not to do that. They just choose of their own free will not to do it
when given the choice.

Arjan van de Ven has already shown the long-term consequences of this:

(The attitude to binary modules among kernel developers is hardening
fast. It used to be laissez-faire, more or less. This is most definitely
no longer the case. Arjan's post should give you a good idea why.)
